Preposition
A preposition is a word that comes before a noun or pronoun to show its relation to another word in a sentence. It explains place, time, direction, position, or connection between different things or people. Some commonly used prepositions are in, on, at, under, behind, between, and with.
Preposition वह शब्द होता है जो किसी noun या pronoun से पहले लगकर उसका संबंध वाक्य के अन्य शब्दों से बताता है। यह स्थान, समय, दिशा, स्थिति या संबंध को स्पष्ट करने का कार्य करता है। सामान्य prepositions हैं: in, on, at, under, behind, between और with।

• He reached the station on time. वह समय पर स्टेशन पहुँचा।

All Possible Uses of the Preposition “Between”
English: The preposition “between” is mainly used to show position, relationship, choice, division, time, and comparison involving two or more clearly defined people or things.
Hindi: Preposition “between” का उपयोग मुख्य रूप से दो या अधिक स्पष्ट रूप से अलग-अलग व्यक्तियों या वस्तुओं के बीच स्थिति, संबंध, चुनाव, विभाजन, समय और तुलना को दिखाने के लिए किया जाता है।
Between (Two People or Things)
English: Use: To show a position or relationship involving two distinct persons or things.
Hindi: उपयोग: दो अलग-अलग व्यक्तियों या वस्तुओं के बीच स्थिति या संबंध दिखाने के लिए।
Examples / उदाहरण:
The teacher sat between Ram and Shyam.
शिक्षक राम और श्याम के बीच बैठा।
There is a wall between the two houses.
दो घरों के बीच एक दीवार है।
The match was played between India and Australia.
मैच भारत और ऑस्ट्रेलिया के बीच खेला गया।
👉 Rule / नियम:
Even if more than two items are mentioned, “between” is correct when they are clearly separate.
यदि दो से अधिक हों लेकिन सभी अलग-अलग हों, तब भी “between” सही है।
Between (More Than Two — Individually Defined)
English: Use when more than two are involved but considered separately.
Hindi: जब दो से अधिक हों लेकिन हर एक को अलग माना जाए।

The money was divided between the three brothers.
पैसे तीन भाइयों के बीच बांटे गए।
Negotiations took place between the five countries.
पाँच देशों के बीच वार्ता हुई।

Between = clearly identified individuals
Between केवल दो के लिए नहीं, बल्कि स्पष्ट रूप से अलग व्यक्तियों के लिए होता है।
Between (Choice or Alternatives)
English: To express a choice between options.
Hindi: दो विकल्पों के बीच चुनाव दिखाने के लिए।

Choose between tea and coffee.
चाय और कॉफी में से चुनो।
I can’t decide between staying home and going out.
मैं घर पर रहने और बाहर जाने के बीच निर्णय नहीं कर पा रहा हूँ।
Between (Comparison or Contrast)
English: To show difference or comparison.
Hindi: तुलना या अंतर दिखाने के लिए।

Between (Position / Space)
English: To show physical position in the middle of two points.
Hindi: दो स्थानों के बीच स्थिति दिखाने के लिए।

The park lies between the hospital and the school.
पार्क अस्पताल और स्कूल के बीच है।
He stood between the two pillars.
वह दो खंभों के बीच खड़ा था।
Between (Time)
English: To show a fixed time range.
Hindi: निश्चित समय अवधि दिखाने के लिए।

The shop is open between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.
दुकान सुबह 9 बजे से शाम 6 बजे तक खुली रहती है।
I will meet you between 5 PM and 6 PM.
मैं तुमसे शाम 5 बजे और 6 बजे के बीच मिलूँगा।
The shop remains closed between 1 PM and 2 PM.

English: To show sharing.
Hindi: बांटने या साझा करने के लिए।

Divide the work between the team members.
काम टीम के सदस्यों के बीच बाँटो।
The teacher divided the chocolates between the two students.
शिक्षक ने दो विद्यार्थियों के बीच चॉकलेट बाँट दी।

English: To show mutual relationships.
Hindi: संबंध या समझौता दिखाने के लिए।

English: To show a link.
Hindi: संबंध या कनेक्शन दिखाने के लिए।

मेहनत और सफलता के बीच गहरा संबंध होता है।

English: To show limits.
Hindi: सीमा या रेंज दिखाने के लिए।

Hindi: मानसिक या भावनात्मक संघर्ष दिखाने के लिए।
