Preposition

A preposition is a word used before a noun or pronoun to show the relationship between people, places, things, or time in a sentence. It helps us understand position, direction, time, and connection. Common prepositions are in, on, at, under, behind, between, and with.

Examples:
• The book is on the table.
• She arrived at school early.

Prepositions make sentences clear and meaningful by connecting different parts of a sentence properly.
Preposition वह शब्द होता है जो किसी noun या pronoun के पहले आकर उसके संबंध को किसी व्यक्ति, स्थान, वस्तु या समय से जोड़ता है। यह स्थान, दिशा, समय और संबंध को स्पष्ट करता है। सामान्य prepositions हैं: in, on, at, under, behind, between, और with। Preposition वाक्य को स्पष्ट और अर्थपूर्ण बनाने में मदद करता है।

“Since” for Point of Time (सबसे मुख्य उपयोग)

English: Use since to show the starting point of an action or state that continues till now. It is mainly used with Perfect Tenses.
Hindi: Since का उपयोग किसी कार्य या स्थिति के शुरुआती समय (starting point) को दिखाने के लिए किया जाता है, जो अब तक जारी है। यह मुख्य रूप से Perfect Tenses के साथ प्रयोग होता है।
Structure: since + specific time / date / day / moment

Examples / उदाहरण:
I have lived here since 2015.
मैं 2015 से यहाँ रह रहा हूँ।
She has been teaching English since Monday.
वह सोमवार से अंग्रेज़ी पढ़ा रही है।
We have known each other since childhood.
हम बचपन से एक-दूसरे को जानते हैं।
He has not eaten anything since morning.
उसने सुबह से कुछ नहीं खाया है।

“Since” with Present Perfect Tense

English: Use since with has/have + V³ to show an action started in the past and continuing now.
Hindi: Since का उपयोग has/have + V³ के साथ किया जाता है, जिससे यह पता चलता है कि कोई कार्य भूतकाल में शुरू हुआ और अब तक जारी है।

Examples / उदाहरण:
I have worked here since 2010.
मैं 2010 से यहाँ काम कर रहा हूँ।
She has not called me since last week.
उसने पिछले सप्ताह से मुझे कॉल नहीं किया है।
They have completed many projects since January.
उन्होंने जनवरी से कई प्रोजेक्ट पूरे किए हैं।

“Since” with Present Perfect Continuous Tense

English:
Use since to show how long an action has been going on, starting at a fixed time.
Hindi:
Since का उपयोग यह दिखाने के लिए किया जाता है कि कोई कार्य कब से (starting point) जारी है।

Examples / उदाहरण:
He has been studying English since 6 a.m.
वह सुबह 6 बजे से अंग्रेज़ी पढ़ रहा है।
We have been waiting here since morning.
हम सुबह से यहाँ इंतजार कर रहे हैं।
She has been living in Delhi since her marriage.
वह अपनी शादी से दिल्ली में रह रही है।

Note / ध्यान दें:
👉 Since = starting point (शुरुआती समय)
👉 For = duration (अवधि)

“Since” used as Cause / Reason (क्योंकि)

English:
In this case, since is not about time but about reason.
Hindi:
इस स्थिति में since समय नहीं बल्कि कारण (reason) बताता है।

Since it is raining, we will stay at home.
क्योंकि बारिश हो रही है, हम घर पर रहेंगे।
Since he was tired, he went to bed early.
क्योंकि वह थका हुआ था, वह जल्दी सो गया।
Since you are here, let’s start the class.
क्योंकि तुम यहाँ हो, चलो कक्षा शुरू करते हैं।

“Since” used with Past Simple Tense

English:
Sometimes since connects two past events.
Hindi:
कभी-कभी since दो भूतकाल की घटनाओं को जोड़ता है।
Structure / संरचना: Present Perfect + since + Past Simple

Examples / उदाहरण:
It has been years since I met him.
मुझे उससे मिले कई साल हो गए हैं।
She has changed a lot since she joined the company.
कंपनी जॉइन करने के बाद से वह बहुत बदल गई है।
We haven’t spoken since we left school.
स्कूल छोड़ने के बाद से हमने बात नहीं की है।

“Since” with Negative Sentences

English:
Used to show that something has not happened from a specific time till now.
Hindi:
यह दिखाने के लिए उपयोग होता है कि कोई कार्य किसी विशेष समय से अब तक नहीं हुआ है।

Examples / उदाहरण:
I have not seen him since last month.
मैंने उसे पिछले महीने से नहीं देखा है।
She hasn’t eaten junk food since her illness.
उसने अपनी बीमारी के बाद से जंक फूड नहीं खाया है।
They have not contacted us since the meeting.
उन्होंने मीटिंग के बाद से हमसे संपर्क नहीं किया है।

“Since” in Questions

English:
Used to ask about the starting time of an action.
Hindi:
किसी कार्य के शुरुआती समय के बारे में पूछने के लिए उपयोग किया जाता है।

Examples / उदाहरण:
Since when have you been learning English?
तुम कब से अंग्रेज़ी सीख रहे हो?
Since when has she lived here?
वह कब से यहाँ रह रही है?
Since when have they known each other?
वे कब से एक-दूसरे को जानते हैं?
