Past Continuous (There as a Dummy Subject)

Past Continuous Tense में “there” का प्रयोग यह बताने के लिए किया जाता है कि भूतकाल में किसी समय कोई व्यक्ति, वस्तु, या गतिविधि मौजूद थी और कोई काम जारी था। इसकी संरचना होती है: There + was/were + noun + verb-ing + place/time। “Was” का प्रयोग singular noun (एकवचन) के साथ और “Were” का प्रयोग plural noun (बहुवचन) के साथ किया जाता है। यह structure बताता है कि भूतकाल में कोई चीज़ या व्यक्ति मौजूद था और कोई कार्य कर रहा था। जैसे “There was a man standing outside the gate” का अर्थ है कि अतीत में एक आदमी गेट के बाहर खड़ा था। और “There were children playing in the park” का अर्थ है कि पार्क में बच्चे खेल रहे थे। इसलिए जब आपको बताना हो कि भूतकाल में कोई मौजूद था और कोई काम कर रहा था, तब there के साथ was/were + verb-ing का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

Past Continuous (with “being”)

Past Continuous Tense में “there” का प्रयोग यह बताने के लिए किया जाता है कि भूतकाल में किसी समय कोई चीज मौजूद थी, हो रही थी, या घटित हो रही थी, और इसकी संरचना होती है There was being (एकवचन noun के साथ) तथा There were being (बहुवचन noun के साथ)। हालांकि यह structure व्याकरण की दृष्टि से सही है, लेकिन सामान्य English में इसका प्रयोग बहुत कम होता है क्योंकि native speakers आसान expressions का प्रयोग करना पसंद करते हैं। इसका उपयोग तब किया जाता है जब हमें बताना हो कि भूतकाल में कोई घटना कुछ समय तक जारी थी या हो रही थी। उदाहरण के लिए, “There was being a discussion in the hall when I arrived” का अर्थ है कि जब मैं पहुँचा तब hall में चर्चा चल रही थी। दूसरा उदाहरण है “There were being many problems during the project” जिसका अर्थ है कि project के दौरान बहुत सारी समस्याएँ हो रही थीं। इसलिए Past Continuous में “there” यह दर्शाता है कि भूतकाल में कोई चीज लगातार हो रही थी या मौजूद थी।
